DIY Halloween costumes

Oh no! Halloween is in one week! I don’t have a costume!
You’ve come to the right place. We found 10 costumes straight from our closets. Here are some ideas!

One pair of overalls can save a Halloween. You could be…
1.A nerd
2.Mario or Luigi
3.A hillbilly
4.Or the very popular… Minion!

I found my overalls at Walmart but most local thrift stores would have a pair.

5. Cowboy
Throw on your plaid shirt and your cowboy boots and viola!

6. 80s girl/guy
Neon colors all the way!

7.”We can do it!”
Denim button up & red bandana

8. Hippie
Wear your favorite tie dye!

9. French Gal
Black and white stripes. Top it off with a beret!

10. ¡Spanish lady!
I happened to have this Spanish looking skirt and wanted to make the best of it. I think this is what I’ll be for Halloween. I really want to find poofy white top too!

Paint Your Pumpkins

The typical Fall season consists of pumpkin carving, but carving a pumpkin is really difficult and you need tools and time and all together not an easy tradition…
It’s time to spice it up! Try painting pumpkins instead!

Just go for it! Do whatever you want with it! It’s really fun too. I did chevron because I really like chevron (You probably considered we did) but the possibilities are endless!

Rustic Sheet Music

Here is how you make your sheet music look antique.
All you need is a pan, sheet music and tea or coffee. We used tea just because it was the only thing available.

20131013-155559.jpg
Crumple up the paper a little bit and soak it in the tea. The longer you soak it, the browner it gets. We only did it for an hour but I recommend you soak it longer than that.

I know it isn’t that brown but with longer soaking it will be really great I know it 🙂

There are so many things you could use this for, and we will be looking around for one to show you. Be creative with it too! If you have a craft to make with this, or want to show us your results after letting it soak longer, please email us at chevronchicblog@yahoo.com
Thanks and have a wonderful Sunday!

Creative Gifts

Nowadays it seems the only thing to give people is money. It’s a guaranteed gift that they will use, but do you want to be one of many who sticks $20 in a card?
No! You want to give cash in a really awesome way! I will be trying to do these every chance I get because they are really helpful.
Here is one I really like.

20131009-202833.jpg

It’s pretty simple too.
You need an umbrella and however much money you want to give. ($1 bills are the best to make it look like a ton of money)

Tape your money to string with tape that won’t make the dollar rip. Be sure to use a variety of heights. Tie or tape the string to the umbrella and repeat! You have to be careful when closing the umbrella so the money doesn’t get all bent. I didn’t know this so some of my dollar bills are bent, but they don’t mind.
This gift was a hit. She loved it so much!
Caution: If they open it publicly it will get many oohs and ahs but everyone will then want a creative gift…

I hope this helps!
More creative gifts to come I guarantee!

DIY Sugar Scrub

20131001-174706.jpg

This a simple way to make an awesome sugar scrub.
You need:
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup your favorite hand soap or body wash. Either work.
We used Dove Body Wash

A mason jar is a nice way for presentation but it is optional.
Here is the finished product.

20131001-175552.jpg

1. Measure out the soap and sugar
2. Pour them into desired container
3. Mix well so there is no sugar clumps
4. Give it a try! It smells like your soap but with a sugar scrub texture.
